The other thing I was thinking about today (as I was scarfing all my food down and still starving) is honoring your hunger and listening to your body. I couldn’t/can’t figure out why I’ve been so hungry today. I even stared feeling kind of guilty and bad about it. I started thinking “I’m such a pig”, “control yourself”, “why are you eating SO much?!” and then I realized some days are just like that. Our bodies know how much we need. Now, I’m not saying that some days your body will tell you to eat an entire cake, 5 cheeseburgers and an entire package of Oreo’s in one sitting, but to an extent…some days you’re just going to be more hungry and eat more than other days. It doesn’t mean anything is wrong with you or that you are out of control, it’s just one of those days. They’ve done so many studies on children and how as children we are pretty good as honoring our hunger. We know when we’re hungry and we know when we’re satisfied and when to stop. Over time we lose that because we’re told to “finish our plate” or “stop eating so much”, etc. etc. but honoring your hunger and listening to what your body needs is so important. If you’ve never read the book Intuitive Eating. Do. It’s seriously amazing. It’s all about listening to your body and eating intuitively. It’s definitely easier said than done but this book has some great insights and tips on how to work on getting to that point. So today…I’ll probably go home and eat a lot more than I normally would. And you know what, that’s okay because tomorrow is a new day. And a new start!
