Aspartame (and other sweeteners) is a topic I’ve done a lot of research on (see my previous post on sweeteners here). It’s something that I get asked about ALL the time and something that I’ve wanted to learn about so this was a perfect topic for me. I’ve posted the link to my interview below, the whole show is over two hours long so if you want to listen to my interview it’s minutes 15:00 – 37:05 on the link. Now, remember I was slightly nervous and there are a few things I would have done differently. Overall I actually felt pretty good about it but there were two things that stuck out to me that I want to clarify.
1. I want to make sure you know I don’t promote sweeteners as a “healthy food/option”. My point was simply that I don’t think they’re of the devil and I believe they are just fine in moderation. I hope that was clear. As a dietitian (and as myself) I promote whole, healthy and natural foods for the most part but I also think if you want to indulge in a diet soda or some other product that contains aspartame, it’s just fine. Research shows that. If you’re interested, I will be posting more of the information/research I’ve found that back that up, very soon.
2. I caught myself at one point saying “good food vs. bad food” I don’t like to label foods as “good” or “bad” because I think all foods can have a place in our diets. Again…everything in moderation, but it just came out…as nerves sometimes do. So forgive me for that one. Hopefully next time I won’t slip up like that.
Well…here is my take on aspartame via Radio Me. (Click the link below) Enjoy!
